We Are the Happiness We Seek

The pathway between our self and experience is attention. The pathway from the content of experience back to our self is prayer or meditation. We seem to lose our self in experience and make this return journey to our self. Having relaxed the focus of attention on experience to become aware of our self, we can return to experience without overlooking our self. We can watch the movie without losing sight of the screen. We do not need to free our self from the content of experience through effort or practice. We can recognize our inherent freedom in the background of experience and then in the midst of experience. Awareness assumes all forms of experience but is never changed by it, so it becomes unnecessary to defend against or seek any experience to preserve our peace. We are the happiness we seek. It is the nature of our being.
